Next session training session is as follows;-
OBJECTIVES: To complete all exercises safely
To gain track skills
To gain fitness
TO GIVE EVERY PARTICIPANT A GOOD WORKOUT
1. WARM-UP: Beginners wait for instructions from whoever takes the session
2. PROGRESSIVE SCRATCH: 30 laps changing every half lap. Emphasise on ‘progressive’. No one should be dropped in the first 20 laps.
3. Time for ‘beginners’ still needing instruction and those too young to participate with other riders.
4. HUNTER’S VARIATION: 10 – 15 mins.
5. Time for ‘beginners’ and young riders
6. TAKING HALF LAPS: An individual exercise stronger beginners who are ‘safe enough’ can take part in.
7. Time for ‘beginners’ and young riders
8. Taking laps in fours. A skills exercise in which you can practice riding close to a wheel and changing on the bankings.
9. Time for ‘beginners’ and young riders
10. POINTS EXERCISE: 40 laps, sprints every 8 laps, regrouping after each sprint with the exception of the penultimate sprint. Regrouping can be done quickly if the leading riders go up the track (checking to see that no rider is about to overtake them) permitting dropped riders to pass on the black line? Riders coming on from the back have two and only two laps to get back on.
11. Time for ‘beginners’ and young riders
12. Scratch: 40 laps.
13. WARM DOWN
Track champion to be decided over three events:-
1. Sprint – 2 lap heats and semi-finals and a 3 lap final. Some riders, Soupy for example, can expect to be seeded and go through to the semi-finals.
2. 40 lap Points – sprints every 8 laps. Points for each sprint will
be:-
1st. 5 pts.
2nd. 4 pts.
3rd. 3 pts.
4th. 2 pts.
5th. 1 pt.
Taking a lap 10 pts.
3. 40 lap Scratch
There is time for modifications so do not hesitate to make suggestions.
Hopefully, there will be people to help out with judging. We can’t
expect whoever is taking the session to do it alone.
Club Track Championships 21st March 2004
Wrightys online tinternet report:
Track session 21/3/2004 saw Dave O'Brien puncture and crash out of the 10 mile Scratch and Neil 'Soupy' Campbell break his bars winning it.
The session was a reunion of the O'Brien brothers. Mark didn't ride but Scott, Dave and Scott's son did. Scott was a shadow if a large one of his former junior self but who knows he might recover.
Lauren Stanley was riding well, better than her Dad?
The Sprint championship was inevitably won by Soupy but Jez Ellis was the surprise winning his heat and coming third in the final. Could he challenge Soupy next year?
Dave O'Brien won the Points championship decisively with 38 points from Wilko with 18. The leaders were two laps up at the end.
Soupy was the overall champion with 15 points.
Having championships in the session was well received and will, with some changes be repeated next year.
The track programme made a loss of less than £10.00. Some individual sessions were in the black.
